Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 - Spring Term 2019

Mrs Hannaford, Miss Pickard and Mrs Boon.

The Year 6 Team

Welcome to Year 6.  Our topics for the Spring Term will start with ‘Japan’, before we turn to ‘Into the Darkness’. We will use these topics to support our learning across the curriculum, beginning to prepare the children for the SATs exams that they will sit at the end of the year.

PE will be on Thursday afternoons. It will be taken by a sports coach, who is aiming to be inside teaching dance and gymnastics. However, please ensure that children have both indoor and outdoor PE kit, as the children may have to be outdoors from time to time.

A copy of the Spring curriculum for Year 6 can be found below.

If you have any questions, queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact one of the Year 6 team.

P.E.

On Thursday afternoon your child will be having a PE lesson; please ensure that they have the correct clothing to participate, including tape to covering earrings and bands to tie back hair. Also please encourage them to wash their PE kit weekly. The sessions are being taken by a qualified sports coach who will ensure the children are receiving high quality PE lessons.

Homework

Homework is handed out on a Thursday and this will need to be completed and handed in by the following Tuesday. If homework/reading is not completed then a session on a Wednesday lunchtime will be compulsory to complete any outstanding work.

The Year 6 children now have access to www.IXL.com.  Tasks from this website will be allocated to them each week and in addition, they will be given an arithmetic test to complete.  If you have any difficulties accessing the website, the children can use the computer equipment in school to do so.

Children will have the opportunity to independently change their book every day if and when necessary, or they can read a book from home.
