Celebrating Faith,
Learning and Success

St Botolph's Church of England Primary School

Year 3

Welcome to Year  3 – Spring 2020

Miss Jukes, Mrs Nicholls, Mrs Scibelli, Mrs Cooke, Mrs O'Sullivan and Mrs Radford.

During the first half of the Spring Term our topic is “Into The Light”. We will be investigating light sources and how shadows are made. In Geography we will be looking at the UK. Next term our topic is Rainforests.

We will be reading the story of 'Mr Majeika' by Humphrey Carpenter. We will be revisiting how to use inverted commas in our writing and extending our sentences using time, place and cause conjunctions.  We will also introduce subordinate clauses into their writing next term with our book 'The Firework Maker's Daughter' by Philip Pullman.

We will be starting the spring term by exploring multiplication and division. This will consist of understanding commutativity and inverse operations as well as looking at how solve missing number equations/problems. We will continue with multiplication in our next unit and look at the relationship between multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.

We will continue to listen to your child read in our reading sessions.  Please continue to support your child by reading daily at home.  Once your child has finished reading and discussing their reading book they can independently change them.

Children will have one session of PE a week on a Wednesday. All children need appropriate indoor and outdoor PE kits in school for these days. For health and safety purposes children must remove earrings and tie their hair back if it's longer than their shoulders.  For the Spring term we will mainly be inside for these lessons. We will be exploring dance movements with the theme of 'Space'.

All children need the following PE kit:

Indoor: Light blue t-shirt, (available from school), navy blue shorts, white socks and indoor trainers.

Outdoor: In addition to their indoor kit they need a navy sweat shirt (without a hood and different from their school sweatshirt as it may get wet or dirty), navy tracksuit bottoms (no logos please) and outdoor trainers.

(These days are subject to change due to other events happening in school).
