Welcome to Year 3 – Autumn 2019
Miss Jukes, Mrs Nicholls, Mrs Scibelli, and Mrs Hill.
During the first half of the Autumn Term our topic is “Through the Ages”. We will be researching life during the Stone Age into the Iron Age. This links nicely with our Geography unit of volcanoes as well as our Science unit on rocks and fossils.
We will be reading the story 'The Stig of the Dump' by Clive King. We will be introducing how to seperate our writing into paragraphs and extending our sentences using time, place and cause conjunctions. We will also recap our knowledge of word classes to help make our writing more exciting.
We will be starting the school year by exploring calculation strategies and number sense. This will consist of investigating and using number bonds, recapping our knowledge of number systems and using addition and subtraction strategies to solve equations.
We will continue to listen to your child read in our reading sessions. Please continue to support your child by reading daily at home. Once your child has finished reading and discussing their reading book they can independently change them.
Children will have one session of PE a week on a Wednesday. All children need appropriate indoor and outdoor PE kits in school for these days. For health and safety purposes children must remove earrings and tie their hair back if it's longer than their shoulders. For the Autumn term we will mainly be outside for these lessons (weather permitted).
All children need the following PE kit:
Indoor: Light blue t-shirt, (available from school), navy blue shorts, white socks and indoor trainers.
Outdoor: In addition to their indoor kit they need a navy sweat shirt (without a hood and different from their school sweatshirt as it may get wet or dirty), navy tracksuit bottoms (no logos please) and outdoor trainers.
(These days are subject to change due to other events happening in school).
