Welcome to Year 3 – Spring Term 2019
Miss Satari, Miss Jukes, Mrs Scibelli, Mrs Webb, Mrs Hurst and Mrs Runacres.
During the second part of the Spring Term our topic is “Rainforests”. Which will link nicely with our Science unit on plants. This will follow on from our class text.
We will be reading the story of Jemmy Button by Valerio Vidali. We will be learning to describe settings and how to set the scene for a story. We will also recap our knowledge of present and past tense as well as introducing subordinate clauses as this will help with making our stories a bit more exciting!
We will be starting a new unit of work on fractions. We will be looking at fractions of a given quantity, comparing fractions, recognising equivalent fractions and adding/subtracting fractions with the same denominator within one whole. We will then move onto a new unit of angles and shapes. This will include; identifying angles inside a 2-D shape and investigate the terms ‘acute’ and ‘obtuse’.
We will continue to listen to your child read in our Destination Reader Sessions. Please continue to support your child by reading daily at home. Once your child has finished reading and discussing their reading book they can independently change them.
Children will have one session of PE a week on a Monday. All children need appropriate indoor and outdoor PE kits in school for these days. For health and safety purposes children must remove earrings and tie their hair back if it's longer than their shoulders.
All children need the following PE kit:
Indoor: Light blue t-shirt, (available from school), navy blue shorts, white socks and indoor trainers.
Outdoor: In addition to their indoor kit they need a navy sweat shirt (without a hood and different from their school sweatshirt as it may get wet or dirty), navy tracksuit bottoms (no logos please) and outdoor trainers.
(These days are subject to change due to other events happening in school)
