Year 2

Welcome back to Year 2 - Autumn term 2019

Welcome to the Year 2 section of the school website.
During the Autumn Term, the children will being setting sail on the good ship Year 2 with our topic of Pirates.

This term our learning will follow the story of "The Night Pirates". We will use this to guide our developing of understanding a text in reading sessions and our language choices in our writing.

We will be following the Maths Mastery programme in order to deepen and develop children's knowledge and understanding of number and problem solving.

Our PE lesson will be on a Thursday for both classes, please ensure your child has both indoor and outdoor PE kit, including warm clothing and trainers each week.

Homework will be sent home on a Thursday and these will need to be completed and handed in by the following Tuesday.  All children are expected to have read and/or shared a book at home a minimum of 5 times over a 7 day period. This should be recorded in their reading record book. As children progress through the reading levels we expect children to read their book over a minimum of 2 nights. This is to enable the children to fully understand what they have read.

The spellings each half term will be sent out at the start of the term. Children will be assessed weekly on the list of words for that week on a Thursday.

Morning Challenge

Parents are now encouraged to leave their children at the Year 2 door and allow them to complete their morning activities independently. This will support the children has they move into Key Stage 2. If you have an urgent message for your child's teacher please email . Teachers will still dismiss the children at the end of the day.

We would like to invite parents and carers to join us each Friday, during Morning Challenge, in the classroom for a Parents Briefing to let you know what we have been doing during the week.  Please could you ensure that your children come and sit on the carpet during the briefing and that younger siblings sit with yourselves.

Our class library day will be on a Monday.  Each week there will be a selection of books for your child to choose one to bring home and share for the week.  In your child’s tray there is a form to just pop the name of the book that your child has borrowed for the week.
