Year 2

Welcome back to Year 2 - Spring term 2019

Miss Javed, Mr Joyce, Mrs Cooke, Mrs Coupland, Mrs Hill and Mrs Roberts

Welcome to the Year 2 section of the school website.
During the Spring Term, the children will being learning about Animals and their habitats.

This term we will be developing the children's writing by using a range of different features including capital letters. Our writing will be lead by reading two whole class stories this term, The Lonely Beast and The Owl who was afraid of the dark.

We will be following the Maths Mastery programme in order to deepen and develop children's knowledge and understanding of number and problem solving.

Our PE lesson will be on a Tuesday for both classes, please ensure your child has both indoor and outdoor PE kit, including warm clothing and trainers each week.

Homework & Spellings

These will be sent home on a Thursday and these will need to be completed and handed in by the following Tuesday.  Please ensure your child gives in their homework and spelling books every Tuesday.  All children are expected to have read and/or shared a book at home a minimum of 5 times over a 7 day period. This should be recorded in their reading record book. As children progress through the reading levels we expect children to read their book over a minimum of 2 nights. This is to enable the children to fully understand what they have read.

Morning Challenge

We would like to invite parents and carers to join us each Friday, during Morning Challenge, in the classroom for a Parents Briefing to let you know what we have been doing during the week.  Please could you ensure that your children come and sit on the carpet during the briefing and that younger siblings sit with yourselves.

Our class library day will be on a Monday.  Each week there will be a selection of books for your child to choose one to bring home and share for the week.  In your child’s tray there is a form to just pop the name of the book that your child has borrowed for the week.
