Welcome to Reception - Spring Term 2019

Mrs Sherriff, Mrs Appleby, Miss Clements and Mrs Monaghan.
The Reception Team!

Our topic for the first half of the spring term is ‘People who help us’. We will be finding out about different jobs, within the community, that help people. For example; the fire, police and medical services. During the second part of the spring term our topic will be ‘All creatures great and small’. In March, as part of our learning, we will be visiting Sacrewell farm.

In phonics the children will move on to phase 3 of letters and sounds. This phase focuses mainly on diagraphs. We will still be consolidating previous learning in daily phonics sessions and weekly group writing activities.

In Maths we shall be working on numbers to 20. We will continue to practise one more and one less than a given number to 20. We will practise counting forwards and backwards from any number between 0 and 20. We will be using objects and numberlines to help us add and subtract. We will also be grouping and sharing quantities and objects and solving practical problems.

We will continue to do PE once a week on a Friday.  The children will need their PE kits, but they do not need plimsolls as they will take part in these sessions with bare feet in the hall.  We will be focusing on gymnastics this half term.
