Foundation Subjects and Science

Summer Term

This term is full of exciting new challenges and experiences.

In music, we are excited to be using our bodies as percussion instruments and design and make a recycled orchestra, thinking about how we can make sounds.  We will be learning about the structure of music and exploring how fast or slow, loud or quite a piece of music can be. The children will also have the opportunity to play a wide range of percussion instruments to strengthen their understanding of the dynamics and tempo of music.

In design technology we will be building on our knowledge of plants from our science unit, and learn how to prepare fruit and vegetables using kitchen utensils.

During our PE sessions we will focus on healthy active lifestyles where we learn yoga, and practise our athletic skills. In the second half of the term we will solve problems together during our outdoor and adventurous sessions.

RE will really get us thinking hard this term when we consider which celebrations are important to Christians where the children will look at ‘Baptism in church’. The children will consider the question: Why is belonging to God and the church family important to Christians? This will be followed by learning about how Muslims show Allah is compassionate and merciful.

Through our computing curriculum we will be learning all about coding. The children will understand how to give and follow instruction-using symbols to represent steps in a program. They will also understand how to arrange code blocks in order to create a set of instructions. From this, the children will learn how to create a program using code blocks and will understand the difference between object and action code blocks. Finally, the children will create a design plan for their Free Code Scene program and be able to use code to make the program they have designed work.  Later we will be learning about the kinds of technology that exists outside school.

The documents below will give you a flavour of what children will work on this term in science, history, geography and art
