English and maths
English
This term we will be using the books ‘The Journey’ by Francesca Senna and ‘Manfish’ by Jennifer Berne as stimulus for our writing. The children will write a narrative, a diary entry and a biographical piece. At the beginning of each unit of work we will look at a worked example in order to analyse what makes a good piece of writing. With each piece of writing, they will have the opportunity to practice using a range of sentence types, vocabulary and punctuation, in order to make their writing varied and interesting.
Maths
For the summer term, we are studying area and perimeter. This has used our skills of measuring as well as our use of multiplications and addition. We will also be working on Money and Measures, using our practical skills with equipment and then converting between different units of measures as we become more expert.
In summer half-term two, we will be building on our knowledge of symmetry and direction, using coordinates to transform shapes in different ways. Finally, year 4 will be working on our understanding of 2d and 3d shapes.
