English and maths
In English this term we will be looking at two texts- ‘Egyptology’ and ‘Into the Forest’.
For the first part of this term, we will be reading excerpts from our text Egyptology, analyse the language and use the images to expand our vocabulary. This will then inform our writing. Using this text and an example story, we will be planning and writing our own Egyptian mystery narratives. Moving on, we will be planning and writing a diary entry from the perspective of ‘Emily Sands’ an explorer.
For the last part of this term, we will be reading Into the Forest. We will begin my exploring language, images and the structure of the text. Then, we will be writing our own version of a lost narrative. For our second piece of writing, we will be writing a newspaper article.
For the first part of this term we are learning about fractions, looking at part-whole relationships, fractions as part of a whole or a whole set and as a number. We are then learning to add, subtract, compare and order different fractions. We will then move on to a unit on angles and shape, identifying right angles and recognising this as a quarter of a turn. We will then identify and draw parallel and perpendicular lines and draw, make, classify and compare 2-D and 3-D shapes. Finally, we will explore measures, reading scales with different intervals when measuring mass and volume, weighing and comparing mass and capacities with mixed units and estimating mass and capacity.
We will continue to consolidate our understanding of place value and number and addition and subtraction as well as continuing to learn our times tables (2, 5,10,3,4 and 8 times tables)
