Summer Term

This half term our focus book is ‘The last wolf’ by Mini Grey. Once upon a time, Little Red set off into the woods to catch a wolf. . . But the woods aren't all they seem - and are there even any wolves left? Mini Grey re-imagines the classic Little Red Riding Hood fable in an entirely new way. Can Little Red help her new friends in need and recover the wild days of the past? The child will focus on a hunting story with the purpose of building their skills of narrating. In addition, later in the term, the children will be writing recipes in order to embed their skills of instructing. Across the unit, the children will be building on adding suffixes –s and –es, adding –ed to verbs, combining words to make sentences and using and, but, so and because to join words and clauses together. There will also be the remained focus on previous skill such as capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

This term the children will be introduced to numbers 50 to 100 and beyond. They will begin to read, write and represent them in different ways, compare and order numbers up to 100, say what is one more/ fewer, ten more/fewer and identify number patterns. The children will then use previously learnt skills to take their addition and subtraction knowledge further to explore adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers and ones, represent and explain addition and subtraction with recouping and investigate number bonds within 20. In the first-half term the children will also be introduced to money. They will be able to name coins and notes and understand their value, represent the same value using different coins and finally, find change.
