Christopher Columbus

English:  We have changed our handwriting time to every morning and have played various games to support new spellings. Our new focus for English is Christopher Columbus, this week we have been researching facts from texts.
Phonics: Tricky words, through and thought; sound buttons and how to remember the tricky part of the spelling.  Spotting 'e' sounds in a letter - e, ee, y, ea, ey, ei.
Maths: We have been reading addition and subtraction word problems, picking out key information to solve problems.  We have used the bar model to show our working.
PE: Multiskills: learning how to receive and trap a ball.  Please ensure you send your child with some tape if they cannot take their earrings out or we can use school masking tape to cover them.
Design: We have been making islands from our designs.
History: we researched the voyage of Christopher Columbus, to America.
Science: we completed our materials topic by finding out about John McAdam and his road building methods.
RE: we are going to be learning the Christmas story in preparation for our cathedral visit.
Homework: Research Christopher Columbus and present how you wish - poster, leaflet, thought bubble, mind map etc.
Please ensure reading books and diaries are in school everyday.
Please remember to return homework and spelling books on a Tuesday.
