Monday Briefing Blog 16.12.19
Monday 9th - Friday 13th December
In the period leading up to Christmas the weeks are always so busy, and this one, at school, has been no exception.
Mrs Wilkinson started in Lincoln class on Monday and has been made to feel very welcome by the children, and our Christmas creativity has continued!
After our recap in phonics, we have again been learning some more, phase 5, alternative digraphs. This week we have looked at 'aw' (straw), 'wh' (when), and 'ph' (dolphin).
In English, we have moved on to the next fairytale within our story of 'The Jolly Postman'. The children have been looking at adjectives and describing the features of Granny, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf. From there they put their descriptions into similes, likening those characteristics with those of things they already know. It was a great opportunity for the them to demonstrate their great imaginations, and with comparisons such as 'red like the leaves in autumn', and 'sharp like hedgehog's spikes', we have been absolutely blown away!
We have now returned to our topic of 'Numbers within 20' in Maths. Our focus has been on halving and doubling; making sure that both parts are equal or fair, exploring amounts that can or cannot be shared equally, and, from there, moving on to odd and even numbers.
