Monday Briefing Blog - 2.12.19

Monday 25th November - Friday 29th November

We have had an exciting and creative week this week, using our fairy tale character homework designs to make sock puppets as part of our DT project and beginning to get festive making our crafts for the Christmas Bazaar!

In phonics  we have been continuing phase 5, looking at the alternative spellings of known digraphs (two letters that make one sound together).

This week the digraphs we have been learning are oy (boy) and ir (twirl) and the tricky words are 'oh' and 'their'

In maths we have been continuing our unit on 'numbers within 20'. We have been using last weeks learning of partitioning numbers into 10s and 1s and have been applying this to comparing and ordering numbers from the smallest to the greatest amounts.                                                                                          e.g smallest   6 , 13 , 18   greatest

Whilst continuing 'The Jolly Postman' book in English, we opened a letter which contained the story of Cinderella! We then drew a story-map to retell it using pictures and key words. Then at the end of the week, we began to write the Cinderella story using our story-maps to help us with writing the main events in order.

Please continue to read with your child and write in their reading diary at least four times a week, it really does make a big difference to their confidence and progression of reading skills - this does not just have to be their school book everyday, but can be books from home, magazines, menus etc too. Thank you for everybody that continues to do this, Lincoln class have now won the reading challenge 3 weeks running, so come on Leicester class!

Also we would like to say thank you for your cooperation in completing homework with your children and practising their weekly spellings, this really does have a great impact on their learning and shows the children that parents and school staff are a team working together!
