Parent Briefing Blog- Monday 18th November- Friday 22nd November
This week has been a busy week, with a fire practice on Monday and class photographs on Tuesday, as well as lots of learning!
In Phonics we have progressed to phase 5, within which we look at alternative spellings for some of the phonemes (sounds) we have already learnt.
So far we have focused on 'ay', 'ou' and 'ie', and the high frequency/ tricky words 'do', 'when', 'out' and 'what'.
In Maths we tied up our topic of 'Position, Direction and Movement' by having a go at creating algorithms to direct our partners around the hall. The children also enjoyed using a ‘Scratch’ programming activity to give Bee-Bot directions to get to the flower. Please use the link below if you would like to have a go at home.
Our new Maths' topic is 'Numbers within 20' and our early focus has been on the numbers 11-20, looking at how they can be partitioned (split) into a 10 and a number of 1s. e.g. 12 = 10 + 2, 13 = 10 + 3
Continuing further with ‘The Jolly Postman’, in English this week we made a Jack and the Beanstalk collage. Then, thinking about the method we used, we wrote a set of instructions using time connectives to order them (e.g. first, then, finally).
