Monday Briefing Blog- 18.11.19
Monday 11th November - Friday 15th November
Phonics – This week we have been practising reading and spelling ccvcc words (consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant, consonant) such as ‘blink’ and ‘slept’, with a focus on listening, and identifying all the sounds we can hear. We have also been looking at the high frequency/ tricky words ‘do’, ‘when’, ‘out’ and ‘what’.
Maths – Continuing with our unit of ‘Shapes and Patterns’.
Within this topic we have now moved on to ‘Position, Direction and Movement’.
We have been using positional and directional language such as ‘left/ right’, ‘above/ below’, ‘in front/ behind’ to describe locations and follow instructions, and have enjoyed taking part in a 3d shape hunt around the classroom.
English – Continuing with the ‘Jolly Postman’.
Following the creation of our potions, we have been looking at the ‘effects’ they would have on whoever is lucky enough to drink them! We have come up with some amazing, and sometimes quite gruesome, ideas and have been focussing on linking these ideas together in our writing using the conjunction ‘and’. We have also been listening to the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, and thinking about the next character the Jolly Postman meets on his delivery round.
Thank you for reminding the children to hand in their homework, spellings and reading books. They have generally been very good at remembering, but please can you continue to do so, so this becomes common practice.
To prevent any confusion when they are being collected in, could we also please ask that homework booklets are taken out of book bags and only sent into school when that week’s homework has been completed. Thank you.
