Learning and Success

Monday Briefing Blog- 11.11.19

Monday 4th November- Friday 8th November

Firstly thank you for being so adaptable with our new start of day routine, we feel it has been going very well and hope you do too.

Phonics – We have been practising reading and spelling cvcc and ccvc words with digraphs like church and green.  We have also been learning to spell the tricky words 'was' and 'you'.

Maths – Our unit is ‘shapes and patterns’.

We have been exploring and learning 3D shapes: sphere, cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone and pyramid.  We have been describing their properties using the vocabulary, faces, edges and vertices.  We have also been revisiting 2D shapes square, rectangle, circle and triangle and describing their properties using the words, sides and vertices.

English – Our class text is the ‘Jolly Postman’.

We have been pretending to be Baby Bear and have been writing letters to Goldilocks, so have been thinking about how letters are structured and using our writing skills to compose them.  We have also been listening to the story of Hansel and Gretel and making our own Witch’s potion, exploring how to structure a list and using adjectives to describe the ingredients.

Please help your child to remember when they need to hand in their homework, spellings and reading book.  Thank you!

15th November – Children in Need (bring in old toys to sell and wear spotty clothes)

16th December – Pantomime in school
