Friday Briefing - 01/12/2017

Practising our play / Advent and it's meaning / 3D Shapes
Topic: At the beginning of the week we talked about Advent and what this means to Christians. We have also been practising our play on most days!
Phonics: In phonics this week we have been learning about captions. The children looked at pictures and thought about what the caption might be. We then practised reading captions together. As the week progressed the children had a go at writing their own captions to pictures. We have also practised reading tricky words by sight.
Maths: In maths this week we have looked at shape. We have focused on 3D shapes with the children looking for objects in the environment that are 3D shaped. We have discussed some of the properties of different shapes, so that the children become familiar with the vocabulary. We use the term ‘face/faces, to describe the flat surfaces of a shape. For shapes such as ‘spheres’ and ‘cylinders’ we use the term ‘curved surface.
