Welcome to Year 6 - autumn term 2018

Mrs Hannaford, Miss Pickard, Mrs Boon and Mrs webb.

the Year 6 Team

Welcome to Year 6.  Our topics for the Autumn Term will start with ‘Ancient Greece’, before we investigate the ‘World at War’.  We will use these topics to support our learning across the curriculum, beginning to prepare the children for the SATs exams that they will sit at the end of the year.  For more information regarding this term’s topics and the areas we will be covering in English and Maths, a copy of the autumn curriculum for Year 6 can be found by clicking here.

PE will be on Thursday afternoons.  It will be taken by a sports coach, who is aiming to be outside teaching netball/basketball and invasion games.  However, please ensure that children have both indoor and outdoor PE kit, in case of inclement weather.

An example time table of a typical week in Year 6 can also be found by clicking here. A copy of the Autumn curriculum for Year 6 can be found by clicking here.

If you have any questions, queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact one of the Year 6 team.

P.E.

On Thursday afternoon your child will be having a PE lesson; please ensure that they have the correct clothing to participate, including tape to covering earrings and bands to tie back hair.  Also please encourage them to wash their PE kit weekly.  The sessions are being taken by a qualified sports coach who will ensure the children are receiving high quality PE lessons.

Homework

Homework is handed out on a Thursday and this will need to be completed and handed in by the following Tuesday. If homework/reading is not completed then a session on a Wednesday lunchtime will be compulsory to complete any outstanding work.

In Year 6, the children are given workbooks and asked to complete specific pages each week.  These workbooks are expensive and the children are expected to take good care of them.  If they are lost or damaged, you will be asked to pay for replacements.

Children will have the opportunity to independently change their book every day if and when necessary, or they can read a book from home.
