PE

PE will be on Tuesdays – children will need to have the correct PE kit for both indoor and outdoor PE. It is essential that hair is tied back and earrings are removed prior to these lessons taking place. Please remember that PE is a mandatory lesson and children will require a note from home if they can’t participate.

Homework

Homework is due in by Wednesday of each week. Please ensure that homework is completed to a high standard. Children should be spending approximately 45 – 60 minutes on their homework per week. It is expected that all written pieces of homework are completed in full sentences and that capital letters and full stops are used automatically.

In addition, children should be reading in line with the school guidelines.  Those children who are reading within our coloured book bands should read at home daily, whilst those who are now free readers should read 5 times a week.  Please help your children to fill in their reading record (with the date, the title of the book being read and the pages read), as these will be checked weekly and those children not reading at home will be encouraged to do so at playtimes and lunch times.  As reading records are referred to within Guided Reading lessons, these books need to be kept up to date and in school daily.

If you have any issues or concerns regarding your child, please contact the Year 5 teaching team who will be happy to assist you.

Spellings

The children will be given spellings every Monday. We will do activities each day to help the children learn their spellings before they are tested on the following Monday. We will include a copy of spellings in their homework books to enable you to support your child in learning them.
