The Year 4 Team

Welcome to the Year 4 section of the school website.
During the Autumn term we the children will continue to develop their Mathmatical knowledge through our Mathmatics Mastery teaching. Our topic of "Our Precious World" will be led by the reading of Tales of Wisdom and Wonder and linked to our geography and science topics around the water cycle and renewable energy.

For more information on regarding this terms' topic and the areas we will be covering in English and Maths please click here (or click on the curriculum button to the left of this page). A copy of the Autumn Curriculum for Year 4 can be found by clicking here the curriculum button

Children will have a weekly session led by Vivacity each WednesdayAll children need appropriate indoor and outdoor PE kits in school. For health and safety purposes children must remove earrings and tie their hair back if it's longer than their shoulders. Chester will be swimming on Tuesday afternoons until half term and York after half term

All children need the following P.E kit:

Indoor: Light blue t-shirt, (available from school), navy blue shorts, white socks and indoor trainers.

Outdoor: In addition to their indoor kit they need a navy sweat shirt (without a hood and different from their school sweatshirt as it may get wet or dirty), navy tracksuit bottoms (no logos please) and outdoor trainers/football boots for when we are on the grass.

(These days are subject to change due to other events happening in school)

Homework will be sent out on a Thursday and is due back in on the following Tuesday for checking.

Spellings and Mental Maths

Children will be developing their knowledge of spelling patterns during daily Spelling Lessons. Maths Meetings have been designed to develop the children's knowledge of both times table facts and other mathematical skills. We will complete a spelling test each Thursday which will be sent home with the children so that parents clearly know the areas that require support.

As in previous years your child is expected to read everyday at home. This reading should be recorded in your child’s reading record book which will be checked by a member of the Year 4 team each week. Children that been unable to read at home will be encouraged to read during break times.

Children will be given the opportunity to change their reading books during the school day.
