The Role of Governors Governors are unpaid volunteers who are elected or appointed to a four year term of office. Governors do their best to support the school in their role as critical friends, bring a strategic view and ensure accountability. Governors are responsible for setting the aims and objectives of the school, setting and agreeing policies and targets for achieving objectives and reviewing progress. Individual governors are appointed to monitor Special Educational Needs, Child Protection, Sex Education and Health and Safety. Non teaching governors are also linked to particular curriculum areas.
The full governing body meets twice termly and in addition sit on one or more committees: • Finance and Personnel • Strategic Steering Group • Curriculum • Health and Safety
Decisions are taken collaboratively and the minutes of the full governor’s meetings are available for any parent to read. Regular training sessions are provided for governors by the Local Authority. The Chair of Governors is always happy to talk with parents individually about the school and their children. Each summer term, the governors ask all our parents to let them know their opinions about the school through a questionnaire, the results of which are communicated to parents in the autumn term each year. |
