The Reception children found some snails in the school garden and wanted to find out more about them.
We made a display of some of the work that the children did over the course of a week.
- They looked closely at the snails through magnifying glasses and drew what they could see.
- They watched the snails moving on glass and painted pictures of them.
- They drew snail trails in shaving foam and made models of them in dough.
- They painted snail pictures and chalked huge pictures of the snails on the paving slabs outside.
- They put the snails on black paper and looked at the slimy trails that they left behind.
- They glittered the slimy trails and looked at books with pictures and diagrams of snails inside as well.
- The children made a home for their snails and discovered that the snails liked to eat cucumber and lettuce but they didn’t like Frosties or digestive biscuits!
