Our visit to Stibbington By Year 4
On Monday 12th of May year 4 visited the Stibbington outdoor day centre. We spent the day looking at animals and their habitats.
When we arrived the teachers explained what we were going to be doing for the day. We were split into groups of four. Each group had a different challenge to complete. The challenges included pond dipping, a mini beast hunt, a wild forest activity and a wood land walk.
When we were pond dipping we used a net to scoop up little creatures and plants. A few of us nearly fell in. Some children found newts, diving beetles, pond skaters, pond snails and a dragon fly nymph.
The mini beast hunt took place behind the centre on the field. The group had a metre stick, some pots, a tray, a clip board and an insect description sheet. We found a caterpillar, a slug, ants, spiders and bees.
Each group had to go on the bus to visit the wild forest. In the wild forest we looked at habitats. We found a fox home which is called a den, lots of wood louse and we heard a cuckoo and a montjack deer. We played an animal memorising game.
We found badger sets on the woodland walk. Each group had sticky strips. To the strips we stuck buttercups, bluebells,
wild garlic, leaves, grass, feathers, bark and other plants that we could find.
Year 4 had a fantastic time. The weather was hot and dry and we did not get to wear our wellies.
