Who we are and what we do:

eco groupThe Eco council is made up of 16 children, 2 from each class in key stage 2. We meet regularly to talk about Eco issues around the school and work on our action plan to help make the school even more eco-friendly. Each meeting has an agenda which we put up on our Eco display (outside year 3). If you have any ideas please see an Eco-council member or put your suggestion in the box by the display.

News:

The school has recently achieved an Eco Schools silver award. Some of the things the school has been working on are setting up litter pickers to collect litter from around the school grounds, having push taps and automatic light sensors put in to save energy and water, every class now has a recycling bin and we had a competition to design healthy eating posters. The school has been visited by Captain Splosh from Anglian Water to help us to save water.

Working towards GREEN:

We have reviewed our action plan with things we want to work on this year. Here are some of the targets we have set ourselves...

  • set up a litter free day to make people more aware of the amounts we waste
  • have energy monitors that make sure energy is not wasted around the school
  • children around school to investigate energy and different sources during environment week
  • develop the wildlife garden.

Please click here to see our action plan in full.

Our big exciting project:

The Eco- council are working towards setting up a brand new healthy tuck shop for children in key stage 2. We will be sending round a survey to find out what fruit and vegetables people would like us to sell and the prices people would be willing to pay. There will be lots of opportunities for children to share their own ideas and think about healthy eating as the tuck shop is set up.

Eco-council tips:

  • Turn off things that use electricity when you don't need them
  • Try to use both sides of paper when you can
  • Recycle paper and card and compost fruit and vegetable waste
  • Try to walk or bike to school if possible
  • Never waste water from the taps. Make sure they always turn off properly.
