Thursday Briefing - 11.10.18

Topic  This week as part of our topic we have read ‘The Funny Bones’. We have thought about our bodies and the children have labelled outlines of the body. Most children were able to think of the initial sounds for words such as ‘head’, ‘leg’ and ‘feet’.

Phonics  In phonics this week we have continued phase 2 of Letters and Sounds. We have taught the sounds ‘m’ ‘d’ and ‘g’.  In the creative area the children had the opportunity to make monkey masks and straw skeletons. The children practised forming the letters correctly. We are also beginning to blend cvc words with the children using the sounds we have taught so far. For example ‘b a t’ - bat, ‘m a t’ - mat and ‘p i n’ - pin.

Maths This week in maths we have continued to look at the numbers 1, 2 and 3. We have encouraged children to find different representations of these numbers. For example, counting the objects, making the number using cubes.
