Diwali "Festival of Lights" - 20/10/217

Friday Briefing 20.10.17

Topic: This week we have been looking at the Hindu ‘festival of lights’ Diwali, which was celebrated this week. The children have made Diva lamps which they will get to decorate and bring home after half term. They have also had the opportunity to design their own Mehndi patterns. We were delighted to have Mrs Parmar-Rea, who came in to talk to the children about how they celebrated Diwali.

Phonics: This week we have continued to look at phase 2 of letters and sounds. We have focused on the letters ‘g’, ‘o’, ‘c’ ‘k’ and ‘ck’.  The children are really beginning to listen for these sounds and many are beginning to blend simple cvc words such as ‘cat’, ‘sit’, ‘dog’ etc

Maths: This week as part of our maths learning we have continued looking at numbers up to 6. We have been singing number songs and have practised counting to ensure 1 to 1 correspondence.

•The homework for half term is to make your own number book. The children can choose a number between 2 and 6. In their booklet they can draw pictures or glue objects in, to illustrate that number of objects.
•Mufti day will be on Friday 3rd of November.
