Our Aspirations For Our Pupils.

By the time children transfer from St. Botolph’s to secondary school, most of them will have been with us since Reception – 7 years in total.

So what are our aspirations for our pupils?  What qualities have we been working with them to develop?

  • A positive attitude towards learning

    * Enjoying coming to school
    * Responding positively in class
    * Listening attentively
    * Concentrating
    * Asking questions and having a spirit of enquiry
    * Evaluating his/her work
    * Working independently and seeking solutions
    * Doing homework promptly and conscientiously
    * Recognising the value in learning

  • An ability to make friends and socialise

    * Mixing easily with other children in the playground
    * Confidently talking to adults and in a relaxed manner
    * Taking part co-operatively in team games and activities
    * Seeking out and enjoying the company of others
    * Encouraging other children to join in activities
    * Trusted to induct new children into school life.

  • An ability to organise their own learning

    * Completing homework efficiently, with care and on time
    * Coming to school well-equipped and taking care of belongings
    * Knowing how to begin researching a topic
    * Organising a topic into an accessible, interesting and attractive form
    * Managing their time efficiently in tests
    * Checking work regularly
    * Planning and evaluating their work
    * Knowing where to find information
    * Recognising the kind of skills needed in different lessons and in different circumstances.
    * Knowing what to do to raise their achievement

  • Acquisition of basic skills

    * An ability to read fiction and non-fiction for pleasure
    * An ability to speak and listen to adults and their peers with confidence and understanding
    * An ability to decode and comprehend fiction and non-fiction texts
    * An ability to appreciate some of the skills and techniques involved in producing different types of writing
    * An awareness of the influence that the media and newspapers can have
    * An awareness of issues of bias and stereotyping
    * An ability to work out sums using the four rules of number
    * An ability to perform basic mental calculations
    * Enjoyment in playing with numbers and looking for numerical patterns
    * An awareness of environmental issues and the way science relates to everyday life.
    * An awareness of the way in which we can learn from the past and the similarities between past events and the present
    * An awareness of the importance of taking responsibility for what we eat and drink and understanding that the way we behave has a significant effect upon our bodies.
    * An ability to express themselves in a variety of different forms-through music, art, dance and drama
    * An ability to appreciate music, art, dance and drama as a form of expression for others
    * An ability to select materials for different purposes and work creatively and adeptly with them
    * Participating in and enjoying sport and games
    * Taking part co-operatively in sport and games and appreciating their own achievements and those of others
    * An ability to select and use appropriate ICT skills for a range of tasks
